9 Simple Tips To Make You A Happy Person

Life is full of ups and downs, there are times we just don't feel happy for a number of reasons. Remember life itself is a rollercoaster, you have to roll with it and adjust accordingly. How you feel inside is usually demonstrated in your character and day to day activities. It’s hard to hide unhappiness, and this can possibly ruin relationships or people might perceive you the wrong way.
Now the question is how do you become happy and stay happy?  You have to be open to change, it all starts with your ability to improve your thinking and striving to get better day in day out

 Here are 9 simple tips to help you become and stay happy :

1. Take Breaks and do something for yourself; Work, Kids, Social Media, and a lot of other things always keep us busy for too long. When these things are done for a long period of time, we get tired of it at one point. Breathe in, and take a break every now and then. Take a break from social media and notice the world around you,  after working all through the week, do something for yourself by the weekend, go window shopping, go watch a movie or stay home and try a new recipe or watch a movie, or go out and see a friend. Whatever it is that is tying you down, just take a break.   As a mom, When I am feeling down, I usually leave my kids with my spouse for few hours and go for a walk or window shopping in the nearby mall.



2. Think positively and leave your negative thoughts behind: Negative thoughts occurs when things are not going as planned. When things happen, don't let your negative thoughts take over. Access your situation and try to see some positivity in it. If the negativity becomes persistent, look for something to shift your mood. Any form of distraction will help in a situation like this, You can just flip through old pictures on your phone or go for a short walk for few minutes and breathe in fresh air.  Look for something to hope for, to kill off your negative thoughts. Every day cannot be good, but there is a good in every day.



3. Exercise or Fitness: To keep a sharp mind it is important to stay fit, find the perfect exercise that works for you. You are not after losing or gaining weight, just keep fit and keep the blood flowing in your body properly. You will feel a lot better after an exercise because exercising releases good mood endorphins. You don’t necessarily have to register in a gym, there a lot of youtube videos that can help you. Going for a long walk is also a good option.



4. Document the things you are grateful for: it can’t all be bad, there is always something to be grateful for. Make a list no matter how little they are and feel positive about yourself, The only people that can’t be grateful for anything are the dead. so search your soul, look around and find something to be grateful for that will always bring a smile to your face. When I feel down, sometimes I just go through my kid's old pictures and it surely brings that beautiful smile to my face.

5. Sleep Well: Not sleeping well will make you grumpy and keep you in a bad mood for the most part of the day. Just like the popular song goes “early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise”, It is hard to stay happy when you don't have enough sleep, go to bed as early as possible to make the next day a better day for you.



6. Help others and expect nothing in return: You don’t need to have a lot of money to help others, you could do as little as open the door for an elderly person. You can also help people with disabilities, or if you have some free time you can volunteer as little as an hour a week where your help is needed in your community. Information is power, you can help others by passing across important information, just in case they are not aware already. The smile on the face of people you’ve helped will surely lift you up, and the feeling of being in the position to help others can also go a long way to make you feel alive and happy.

7. Ask For help; There is nothing wrong in asking for help, talking to someone for a minute might light up your day for weeks to come. When things are totally upside down, remember one thing, if you never ask the answer is always no. Beware of people that are critical of your every move and won’t be willing to help. Check out friends that have invited you for a coffee in the past, or someone that always seems ready to have a chat with you. There is nothing bad in asking, sometimes we have to rely on others so we can fly.

8. Eat Healthily: In as much as we all love to eat what we want, you need to remember that a healthy body means a healthy mind. There is nothing wrong with giving in to your sweet tooth once in a while, but remember to eat more healthy meals. People fall ill for different reasons, but don't let your eating habits be one. Keep yourself happy with good health, Eat well, Eat healthily!



9. Love yourself: There is no way to become or remain happy if you don’t love yourself. Take yourself the way you are and stop comparing yourself to others. Nothing beats self-love, it also shows in you when people meet you. Stop competing with someone else, compete with yourself to be better than you were yesterday. You can only be happy when you are happy with yourself, if you don’t like something about yourself, change it!. Take up the challenge, become better, you deserve it!

With working from home, two children, and the flu hitting us all really badly this month, it's good to take a step back and remember the things we are grateful for. I'm my own worst enemy when it comes to getting enough sleep and asking for help but I'm working on it!

  7. Breaks are in fact quite important, sometimes you get caught up in something, you need to take a step back and look at it from another point-of-view, or simply pause and unwind. Negative thoughts bring nothing but negative energy, you need to snap out of it and try and think of a way to make it positive and stay in that mindset. A great distraction is exercise like you mentioned. Also clean and healthy eating is KEY to look and feel good about yourself. It almost always gives you a good amount of energy to make you feel good throughout your day.
