To Revenge Or Not

Is it normal or not to take revenge when people hurt you? I have been hurt by friends in the past, and it usually angers me, especially when I know I have done a lot of favors for most of them. One thing I always avoid is seeking revenge, I mostly try my best to let it go and ignore it after a while.

I got a broadcast message from a very good friend of mine a few days ago, and it says a lot about why I don't seek revenge or hate others. If I feel really betrayed, I just try my best to ignore the whole event. This is not easy to do I know, but this is what works for me and it has made me a better person. I mostly try to focus on more important things and move on with my life. I don't know the author of this message, but I believe my lovely readers can also learn from it, so here it is;

"FOOD FOR THOUGHT

A snake penetrated into a carpentry workshop.  As it slipped, it passed over a saw and got slightly wounded. Suddenly, it turned and bit the saw, and biting the saw, the snake seriously got wounded in its mouth! Then not understanding what was happening and thinking that the saw was attacking "him," it decided to roll around the saw to suffocate it with all its body by squeezing it with all its strength, but it ended up being killed by the saw!!!

*Sometimes we react in anger to hurt those who have harmed us, but we realize after all that we are being hurt ourselves*.
*In life it is better sometimes to ignore situations, ignore people, ignore their behaviors, their words.*
*Sometimes it is better not to react so as not to suffer consequences that can sometimes be deadly or harmful.*
*Do not let hate take over your life because love is stronger than anything.*

Be wise and live healthy."

"The best revenge is to be unlike him who perform the injury" Marcus Aurelius. I believe when you revenge, you have stooped low to the same level with the one who hurt you or the hater.

Don't get me wrong, revenge is usually exciting and as humans, we are likely to always seek revenge when hurt badly. But revenge is a 2-way sword and both parties involved will most likely get hurt. People will disappoint, hurt, belittle, ignore you and even envy you most of your life. What gain comes from hating them back, or planning to hurt them too? Ignore them, Move on, you will live a more healthy life that way.

  3. Such great thoughts. Getting over the revenge thoughts and the feeling that causes it is the most difficult part, once that feeling and thought goes away, the mind becomes more active to think and differentiate between the right and wrong. Those moments are the one to be avoided when you have no control on the anger emotions.

  4. Awesome, i like the quotes in this post but i don't think revenge is way how to get the pain from inside, i mean we do have so much pain that we want the revenge so bad but still it won't do anything after all.

  5. What a great thoughts. It's better to stay away from negative people that nothing can do good for us. Revenge is not an answer in whatever we feel and what our situation is.

  6. Reacting in anger is usually a time bomb anyway and that shouldn't happen. Revenge in itself... Hm... Well I get why some do it. Makes me think of kill bill right now.

    1. hahaha.. Kill Bill is an awesome movie. At the end revenge only makes things worst and affect lives of people that know nothing about the wrongdoings.

  7. There is so much truth in this post. Revenge ends up hurting the person dishing it out more than the person it is aimed at. It is a bad cycle to get caught up in.

  8. Revenge can be tempting especially when one has been so hurt, but at the end it will only hurt us even more than we already were. I believe in karma, we reap what we sow. In the end, the universe will sort it all out :)

    1. Yes, revenge can be really tempting. It takes a lot to avoid taking revenge, the universe sure will work things out sooner or later. We just need to be patient I think.

  9. Revenge is so sweet but I always take time to go over the event after few days and calmly think revenge won't bring any good. I'd just be a better person and ignore the person and never contact them again. and maybe, in the future, I might forgive them... because that's how you become a better, bigger person.

    1. I like your take on this, I do actually get to forgive later on. Its just the way I am, I surely can't be mad at someone forever.

  11. Taking revenge may seem like an easy solution sometimes but one need to calm down and behave like a mature person! I totally believe in karma. One should always try to do good things and move on if someone does bad to you!

  12. Yes! This is so right. Hurting others always causes hurt to the self.

  13. Revenge is never a good idea. Be the better person and move on, and you can always count on Karma to do the revenge for you!

  14. Let it go. It is so easy for us to wish revenge on others that have wronged up but I've found that Karma usually takes care of things.

  15. Good post, I always seek to be the bigger person if possible and take the higher road. It isn't always easy, but it is calming to me.

  16. I think our instinct is to hurt the person who hurt us. Hurt people HURT people. But seeking revenge is never the best idea. I'm a firm believer in karma so I wouldn't do anything like that. Also, as an adult, it's best to just turn the other cheek and be the bigger person!

  17. Revenge never helps. I'd rather let God do his work.... instead of trying to do God's work.
